While searching for Cpt. Skidd, Wakefield ventures into St. Giles Rookery, where he finds an opium den called The Crimson Nest. He encounters a deaf person who carries a slate in order to communicate. Wakefield shows this person a picture of Skidd and asks if he knows where he is. The deaf person wants something of value before he is willing to cooperate. After receiving a necklace, he opens a locked door that leads to Skidd's private room.
